Osmo 360 on a ground post for form strip time-lapse

I don’t always get a clean window to shoot form strip. When I do, I want the camera locked and boring so the motion is in the forms, not in my hands.

On a Huntington foundation rebuild the house was on temporary shoring and the Advance forms were coming off. I put a DJI Osmo 360 on a SmallRig clamp and magic arm, then locked that to a post coming out of the ground. Settings on that run: 8K30, ultra wide, 15 second interval for the time-lapse.

Setup

Pick a post that won’t get yanked mid day. Clamp first, then magic arm, then the Osmo. Keep the arm short enough that wind doesn’t bounce the camera. Check the screen once, walk away. If you’re babysitting the stick all day you already lost the point of a time-lapse.

I shot stills of the forms and the Osmo mount the same day for social. The time-lapse is the keeper for process. Stills are backup if the interval set fails or the card fills.

Limits

This is coverage, not a hero reel. Dirt, braces, and crew walk through frame. That’s fine. What it won’t do is replace a second camera for detail close ups of ties or pour edges. And if the post gets bumped, the whole take softens.

If you’ve got one clean window on a form strip day, lock the 360 and let the interval do the work. Don’t try to handhold six hours of “just one more pass.”
